  • New costume pieces make me happy. Ruffles make me feel extra girly. This is important on days that are, to quote [livejournal.com profile] jklheart, "stumid" (stupid humid). Anything to give a little emotional lift when you feel like Ass in a JarTM? I am for it. Now that I have my new chemise *beams at [livejournal.com profile] bookwench*, [livejournal.com profile] kttyktspz and I will be a neon-sherbert nightmare on Saturday. This makes me giggle inordinately.

  • Gingy-corset was a big hit, even if the fit was a bit off (making me feel less-than-zesty). The bite out of his head? Extra fun—especially since his google eyes are gazing at it in horror and wonder. Hopefully this weekend will be even better with a few fitting tweaks. Courtesy cut as this got longer than I thought... )

  • Love it that my nearest & dearest really mean it when they say they want honesty. I can tell the plain, unvarnished truth and know that I will not lose the love and respect I've worked so hard to earn. Friendships grow deeper when you can face something potentially ugly and handle it properly. Hooray for new levels of trust. Here's to embracing The Tower and harnessing change.

Love to one and all, and an extra dose for those facing/recovering from personal health challenges (you know who you are). Even more comin' atcha for those watching loved ones face challenges ('cuz that's way harder in many ways than going through it yourself).

First and foremost, tea at the Grand Lux Cafe is the jam (...on the toast *winks @ [livejournal.com profile] lebean—and giggles 'cuz I almost typed "ham"*). Ginger oolong? Much with the happy-making. For so much small food, I am amazingly full... tea and Harvey's Bristol Creme on a cool, rainy day? *SO* the opposite of suck.

But the real reason for my post is shopping conquest... and not even from the cute, sparkly hair things we learned how to do at Soho.

I found Frieda-licious swag (and props to Lady Natasha for spotting the find). She, Delia & I parked in the Macy's parking garage, and we got distracted by a table of shiny things that had the gorgeous words "70% off" and "Sale" on them... and there it was... behind a courtesy cut for large photos )

So once again this weekend I get to say, "Hooray beer!" Love that for me.

... with the biting off more than I could chew. I know, I'm dying of the not shock too.

I am a self-taught seamstress. I can do skirts and chemises OK. Other stuff? I need tutoring and it takes me awhile to get it right. (When I watched [livejournal.com profile] txresiende make the pattern for Lalena's gypsy bodice it seemed a bit like an off-putting combination of trigonometry and alchemy.)

I have projects on which I could use guidance and perhaps some assistance due to workload. [livejournal.com profile] buffalobills is one of QAL's new Ds, and she needs the whole shebang: bodice, skirts & bloomers. I also need something for Easter Sunday: QAL has a tapestry (QALite) and we all wear bodices of it on Easter. It was suggested that for the sake of time I simply make a new stomacher/panel for my Pendragon. Fine, but I have no idea how to make that work!

I need a circle skirt pattern, for starters.

Awww, who am I kidding? I need a vacation so I can sew! (Please ignore the irony of that last sentence.)

At this point it would be ideal if someone out there could help me with a panel for the Pendragon... and I might need back-up on either the bodice or skirts & bloomers. I can do one or the other, probably not both. Bottom line? I just want D to look pretty and feel good in her garb.

Any suggestions, offers or ideas gratefully accepted. Will do what I can for compensation, starting with profuse amounts of begging and self-abasement and finishing with lasagne or brownies (with a little cash in between).

Remembered I needed to hit Sam Moon for SoccerLace & ScotsLace (they coveted my chenille leg-turned-arm-warmers last weekend)... and decided to check the website just in case, as I couldn't manage a lunch hour errand this week.

    Lookie what I found! )

I was never big on orange/rust, but Frieda is giving me a reason to expand my color palette a bit. Ree! It's only $15 and therefore must be mine.

Had a great weekend at TRF. I haven't gotten to go in over 5 years, and what a treat to do it with The Lace. Weather was clear and cool, with just enough sun to dapple and warm a chilly breeze. Sadly, no quality time was to be had with friends old or new... but I'm grateful for hugs and stolen moments.

Bought a few new costume pieces to round out Frieda's wardrobe for the Crayon Box look. Hooray for that. Also got some great ideas from the hair braiders for how to wire up fake braids so I can have bigger, loopier hair. That will trim 5-10 minutes off the faire prep time, and hopefully lessen some of the tension in my scalp. Hooray for that too! (You know it's a sad commentary when letting my hair down is almost as big a relief as the Unlacing Bodicegasm.)

Had big fun developing our whimsical look. Whereas Crayon Box centers around the Pendragon bodice, Whimsy is all about Moresca. Their new Cleo Skirts and Fairy Bodices? To die for. Sadly, I own neither of these... but was quite happy with a new pair of uber-comfy Sufi pants and more bells for my butt. ([livejournal.com profile] kymberlynn, you'd be so proud of how loud I was. Ree!) With a few drapey silk scarves and new colored hair extensions of waywayWAY too much fun, I was feeling the whimsy.

And can't forget—new antennae of *squeeee!* make everything better. So does a good fireworks show. They didn't do that when I was last there. I will never be too old to enjoy fireworks, or marvel at a star-speckled sky on a clear, chilly evening.

Many moments of the silly helped me offset some potential mood pitfalls. Yesterday would have been Jimmy's 34th birthday. I tried not to dwell, or get too maudlin... then had to work to not feel guilty. *sigh*

Shows went well, I think, though I'm realizing there will always be songs pulled out that we've never touched in rehearsal. Arglebargle! Arglebarg! Of course that's not unexpected when pulling from a 10 season sized repertoire... but it's pretty humbling. On the plus side, I nailed my solo bits in the "Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss)" when Flying Fish Sailors pulled us on stage so that was happy making.

[livejournal.com profile] lacemom had a minor incident, though. She's fine now, but swallowed a bit of a bee in one of her honey sticks—the stinger got lodged in her soft palate. Thankfully, she quickly dosed herself with benadryl, and first aid removed said stinger, so she was feeling better before our last show. However, [livejournal.com profile] divalace convinced her that no, really... she shouldn't sing the last set—especially since we're back in studio on Sunday. Myself, I am all about the Better Safe Than Sorry in such scenarios.

Saw three does on the way to festival yesterday. Deer is special to me (and a secondary totem). I tried to stay in a gentle frame of mind as thanks for that gift. Better than seeing 2 coyote dead on the side of the road, as I did when I came home from Kansas. Still not sure what Trickster was trying to tell me there. It still makes me a little twitchy.

Can't wait to go back in November. Faire in cool weather is a whole different kind of magic, as I remembered over the weekend. May need to get [livejournal.com profile] nostradomnatrix to expand her Knitting Kninja repertoire to include shawl-y/poncho-y things... 'cuz Frieda needs a rich, rust colored Wrap of Warm (out of fun eyelash yarn or summat like that).

    Just sayin'.
