So… work blocked LJ again and it looks like this time it's personal. Unfortunately, LJgate is "temporary unavailable" according to their site. And I can't seem to find an app for my phone since it's not a nifty iPhone (or -esque) type gadget. *le sigh*

Until I find a solution, I will do my best to keep up with you, my virtual tribe. I miss you all collectively and many of you individually and up close and personally… more than you may ever know.

All that aside, my world is chugging right along. Took my first vacation of substance (i.e., more than a long weekend) in… gosh, I haven't a clue how long. At least 5 years, probably more. [livejournal.com profile] arbiter_of_cool and I took Rondo Calrissian on its first cross-country road trip home to Michigan. Short version? Beautiful. Bittersweet. Relaxing.

Long version? Read on, MacDuff! )

So our first road trip and impromptu celebration of 3 years together is done: 3,500 miles over 7 states to see 3 Great Lakes in 11 days and we still like each other. I introduced him to regional food favorites like Vernor's ginger ale and pasties. (He did try my whitefish once, but since fish is generally not his thing… well, all the more for me!)

However, he sorely tested me come Tuesday morning when he said, "Oh, I took today off, too," and rolled over once again. Bah.

Since getting home there's been work, more work, laundry, more laundry, MOAR laundry, and a Sunday spent in the studio with QAL. Note to self: never. EVER. listen to raw audio. EVAR! I cooked some, too, since the cold, gray weather invoked my inner Betty Crocker with a vengeance. Plus, it's a nice way to ground myself as I process the experience.

So how's the world treating all of you in LJ Land? Drop me a line as there's no hope of catching up.

As ever, oceans of love to one and all.

P.S. Want pics? Go here.

Well, the after-ness was really over the weekend... but today it still kind of feels like it (though the reasons aren't nearly as much fun.

Made it home from visiting [livejournal.com profile] nostradomnatrix and [livejournal.com profile] skiggaret on Monday. Had a delay in Chicago (note me dying of the not shock; next time I'll spend the extra $50 and fly nonstop) but I made it with 5 minutes to spare. My luggage? Not so fortunate. This wouldn't have been so bad, except the Toothless Coot at the baggage area kept trying to put a positive spin on it. Read more... )

In other news, my promotion (the one I was promised in September) finally went through on February 1st. Raise is decent, but will be even sweeter when my merit increase in June bumps it up more.

Also lost 8lbs. without really trying (took about 3 weeks). Sure, I've aimed to be a bit more conscious about what I eat and my level of activity, but there's been nothing I consider really stunning in my efforts. Still, the velvet jeans I wore to [livejournal.com profile] blondelace's Krimmas party? A bit loose. Hooray that! It's only a drop in the bucket, but must lose 8 before I can lose 80, right?

M'boy is still wonderful (and forgiving of drunk dialing - w00t!) and I plan to spend as much time as possible with him since I was rather pitiful without him on the trip.

All in all, life is sweet.

The family reunion was great. It felt good to be home for reasons far beyond the lovely 84° weather that included a lovely breeze off the lake. No, I don't care that I've lived in Texas for 25 years... in many ways it will always be a foreign place, made bearable by the loved ones surrounding me. Michigan is home.

My sister Kristin, who I haven't met before, is a nutball in all the best ways. That pretty much describes the whole clan, actually. There were at least 4 generations gathered. I loved being approached by a cousin (who knows how many times removed) who looked at my nametag and said, "Jeannette's daughter? Um..."

I threw her a lifeline by saying, "I'm the 4th of 3. I was given up for adoption at birth."

"Ohhhhh! Well, that explains why I haven't met you before. Welcome to the family!" Totally nonplussed. Love it!

Now my crazy plan is to try and put together an event for my family to meet the biological family. It's nutty, but it's important to me, and my folks seem to be on board. We shall see how things develop. Plus, it's another excuse to head home! Must. Have. MORE. Lake time!

Pics here, for those interested (still waiting for a few, but you'll get the drift): http://public.fotki.com/writewench/family_reunion/

Next weekend I'm heading home to Michigan for a family reunion. My birthmother is getting everyone together on what would have been my grandmother's 95th birthday. (I haven't yet met my sister Kristin and apparently we are frighteningly alike so it should be way cool... let the belching contest begin!)

ANYway... I have a 2 hour and 41 minute layover in ATL on Friday. Not sure what the security set up is, but if anyone's free for a lunch date... just sayin'. :D
