A/C is fixed! It took only 15 minutes once the guy showed up (around 6:30pm yesterday). Thanks to MC Arson who allowed us to crash at his place Wednesday night. (Small world—he bought a house 2 blocks east of my WhereIUsedToLiveBeforeHouseOfDoors house.)

He hasn't posted about it *gasp-of-mock-surprise!* but [livejournal.com profile] arbiter_of_cool is getting a new car! Yay! I don't have to worry about the radiatior blowing up, or be extra nice (as if!) 'cuz he's hot and cranky from a no A/C commute!

(Pester him for details, 'K?)

I know I'm not that far into treatment, but jeez I am already weary of tent-like open-in-the-front muumuus made of bed sheets...

... also wishing for a week vacation to do nothing. That's the one big suck about consulting... boo.

As promised, a brief update regarding the goings on with residents of the House of Doors:

  • New Year's Eve was, once again, a bit of a bust. Our first NYE together, [livejournal.com profile] arbiter_of_cool was feeling rather puny, so we stayed home. Last year, I worked a miserably long day, staying 4 hours past office closing to complete a time-sensitive compliance project. I came home with frazzled nerves and promptly had a melt down, locking myself in the bedroom and falling into fitful sleep well before midnight. This year lacked drama, but gained snot. There were mild aches, too. Since we didn't want to share with our friends (you're welcome), we opted to stay home. I fell asleep at 11:30pm. This year, I vow that our NYE will not—I reapeat not— suck for any reason.

  • Spent much of this month watching people we love in the throes of tragic loss. What a comment it is on the power of love that we willing connect with one another, knowing full well that we hurt at seeing another hurt and can do nothing about it. We're at the mercies of someone else's pains, and yet we choose to love again and again, knowing the cost. What a thing is love.

  • In all the sorrow, love still lives. What a delight to see [livejournal.com profile] kerinda again. I thought her lost to us after we Hawkwoodians parted ways, but my random post on a pagan LJ group—the only one of its kind I've made— was spotted by her, bringing her back into the virtual fold. The night at The Londoner after bidding farewell to [livejournal.com profile] gwydiontinker (and welcoming [livejournal.com profile] peppermintkiss)... what a balm. Dear friends and plentiful libations. Hooray all of that.

  • Friday the 40th is shaping up to be an overwhelmingly momentous event, though not necessarily in a bad way. My birth mother (MM—Michigan Momma) will be here. The family that created me will meet the family that raised me, and the chosen family that helped me grow. Eeeeeeeee! *flails* What a way to enter my 40s. She's staying at the House of Doors, so there's a bit of "Ack! Fix/organize/clean it!" going on, but it's a great excuse to get things checked off my list that have lingered too long for my taste. (And not for the millionth time, I am grateful that [livejournal.com profile] arbiter_of_cool is a patient man.)

  • Big thanks go out to [livejournal.com profile] cmore for donning his white 10-gallon hat and hopping aboard his trusty steed. Thanks to him, there will soon be new 'puters at House of Doors, including a laptop upon which [livejournal.com profile] arbiter_of_cool can once again cheat on me play with his other girlfriend City of Heroes. Made of awesomecakes, that. Need to talk to local digerati *looks askance at [livejournal.com profile] meatpie and [livejournal.com profile] goblinking1974* about transferring data off old PCs, but that's a minor challenge, all told. Planning to purchase a docking station and external hard drive to put the cherry of hooray on top of the techno-fabulous sundae. (I don't even know what that means....)

  • QAL is turning Japanese Steampunk! We'll be singing folks down the runway at the fashion show portion of the Steampunk Cotillion at Panoptikon on Friday, February 6th. Should be both a hoot and a holler. Check out QALace.com for scoopage. I am greatly looking forward to this fabulous excuse to play dress up. It means I can wear The HatTM again before Christmas. This pleases me to no end. It's a bloody brilliant hat for which I have deep and abiding love. "Hi, I'm Amy and I have a hat problem..." *high fives [livejournal.com profile] divalace & [livejournal.com profile] blondelace*

  • Speaking of The Lace, new pics are up on the QALace.com slideshow and MySpace. Very funny stuff from 2007. Clay/Vinnie seems to have a 6th sense about who is going to do what stupid, photo-worthy embarrassment when. Hilarity ensues.

  • Enjoyed a wondrous girls night with [livejournal.com profile] dancewench and her nieces last weekend. We kept missing "Mamma Mia" in the theatres, so I gave her the DVD for Christmas, with the caveat that she had to watch it with me first. I made s'more fondue (thanks for that wicked idea, [livejournal.com profile] kymberlynn!), so we were hopped up on disco and sugar. Amid much boogie-ing, there were sing-alongs, laughing jags, and cathartic moments. Again I say hooray for all of that.

  • Working on some new promo for my Cafe Press shop (visit ScareWear for some goth-inspired fun, if you haven't already). Hopefully I can generate some new traffic and make a little cash on the side. If you like what you see, please post about it in your blog! "And she told two friends, and so on, and so on, and..."

  • Riding out the Hope High of today's inauguration ceremonies. It feels good.

That's about all I can recollect for the moment. You're not far from my thoughts, my various and sundry lovelies, and never far from my heart. Be well, one and all.

So I guess I'll do actual updates quarterly or so... at least right now that seems to be the schedule.

    ANYhoo...

    Domestic Stuff )

    Work Stuff )

    Tempest Stuff )

[livejournal.com profile] arbiter_of_cool is wonderful. Was reminded of this last night. Joe's was delivering a pizza bigger than my head just as I got home after 4 long days and 3 hours on the road. Then there was much time spent working my ass groove *grins at [livejournal.com profile] sbbish* (and watching Heroes—Oh. Em. Gee!), and blathering as I tried to sort/process the whole shoot experience before bed.

Looking forward to a relaxed weekend. Need to catch up on chores and spend some down time with my favorite Fruit Bat (that's what the Lace dubbed Arbiter when they heard about him demolishing a 4-pound bunch of grapes during the course of an average day).

Wishing you all the best, oh members of my scattered, beloved Tribe. Big love to one and all.

Well, the move is done. Now comes the hard part—getting settled. Moving and remodeling at the same time is no picnic. And as much as moving sucks, it's infinitely harder when you're moving into an existing household.

So for now I'll be playing a weird Jenga/Tetris hybrid until we make space for all my sundry belongings. Gee, I was really proud of the 5 car loads of crap I dumped at the garage sale... now it doesn't seem like quite enough! I'm sure there will be more tossing of junk. Good times.

But all in all, I am happy to be with my [livejournal.com profile] arbiter_of_cool. We have already had the "There will be NO dumping!" conversation. I'd be homeless, and he'd have done a lot of grunt work for nothing. So I guess we're stuck. ;-)

Looks like the contractors will start creating the master bedroom in the next week or so. Having a real closet will help matters infinitely. Today, however, we'll be working on the kitchen and utility room, as those also affect the housemates.

Good thing I'm dating a massage therapist. Just sayin'.

As always, big love to one and all (and sorry I don't have time to read/catch up).

Things are busy busy 'round these parts! Trekked to East Texas to see [livejournal.com profile] arbiter_of_cool's folks two weekends ago, preceded by MC Arson's celebration of his 30th natal day. As Arbiter pointed out, it's pretty hard to feel sorry for him; he was the youngest one there! Family time was good, too. Met his sister who was both a hoot and a holler—though her eldest son took great pleasure in his domination of an Uno game (yes, I got trounced).

Unfortunately, upon our return I fell victim to some cold/allergy thing. Still sniffling, though I got some Flonase to top off my regular Zyrtec. Bah. I mean, it's not like I lost an eye or have cancer or anything... but I say "Bah" nonetheless. (I either need to get well, or get sick enough where I sleep for a couple days and get over it. This in between crap is where I get uncharacteristically whiney and unbearable.)

Spent last weekend celebrating the nearing end of [livejournal.com profile] twilightfenix's single days. [livejournal.com profile] redwing planned a perfectly suited event, including a picnic, Gameworks and cocktails, and drunken hotel silliness. Played Apples to Apples, which is entertaining in and of itself. Add ridiculous amounts of Wild Turkey Honey and you will laugh until your face hurts (trust me on this— at least it's one of the more fun ways to get sore). If you ever hear of a punk band called the Flirtatious Amputations... well, my bad.

Enjoyed a farewell luncheon at Benihana the following day, then headed back to spend time with Arbiter. He was playing "Guillotine" with [livejournal.com profile] sashastarchaser and [livejournal.com profile] antmanx. I crashed a few rounds. Silliness ensued.

After dinner, I opted to use a soon-to-expire Borders coupon to start the Dead in Dallas vampire series. I think I recall someone on my flist ([livejournal.com profile] middnightclear?) saying they were fun. Then I righted a travesty. You see, my beloved Arbiter had never partaken of gelato joy. With Paciugo so nearby, how could I let him continue, ungelatoed, for any longer? Yum.

Tonight we begin the home remodeling adventure and take the first steps towards making the House of Doors my future home. We're meeting with [livejournal.com profile] kathyc514 to pick out new tile (and, possibly, paint). I am excited! The prospect of sorting through and packing all my crap is a bit daunting, but at least I can begin moving over non-essential items soon. That "bits and pieces" approach may well save my sanity come late-August.

So... I may not be as social as I'd like this summer, but it's not extended post-Scar hibernation. I'm trying to sort all my stuff—which currently fills a small two-bedroom house—to I can sell what I don't need/don't like and fit my world into the House of Doors, endeavoring not piss off its current inhabitants (or force [livejournal.com profile] arbiter_of_cool to dump me for the sheer inanity of it all).

Big love to one and all. North Texans, don't forget your water wings (or a spare pair of oars).
