The trebuchet worked, but I had to choose one side of the building. I hear some banging below... at least one of them must have gotten by me from the east. Elevators have been wonky all day, but I don't know that I can trust the stairwell, either. Suuuure, NOW I wish I had a Hawkwood zip line...

Gonna make a break for it. Should be able to grab a truck from the construction site—it's less than a mile away. Thought about swinging by the folks' place for power tools (chainsaw AVAUNT!) but that puts me by the hospital, and [livejournal.com profile] lebean said that area's already crawling with 'em.

Oh! Remember to hit the first aid kits on the break rooms in the top floors...

Finally got a text from Arbiter. He's making his way home. I'm thinking I'll pull a page from [livejournal.com profile] shaddowshoes' book and go wild. My folks' Texoma property is on 150 heavily wooded, sparsely populated acres. Dad has a boat, too, so we could float to salvation... if only we can make the 90 mile trek. [livejournal.com profile] son_of_dust and Phoenix, that puts us on your path. Hang on...

I'm gonna be a vision in my kitten heel mules, carrying oil-filled balloons on my way to heavy machinery... already stocked up on supplies from the cafeteria. Gotta pick up Arbiter, Ant, Amy and little T... the rest of you, hole up and defend as you can. Tomorrow is another day. Survive, whatever the cost. We'll join up to fortify and combine defenses. Soon.

God speed, one and all. If you don't hear from me, know I loved you to the best of my abilities...

One more saving grace... had an executive meet & greet last night. I wasn't invited, but I can pilfer tasty & flammable adult beverages.

And thank you to the co-worker who went to the Carribean and brought home wee bottles of rum.

Cooking oil-filled balloons? Slippery, but necessary. I'm thinking of a way to build a rooftop trebuchet (hey, we have a lot of rubber bands). The parking lot is emptying out, and I want to keep them from breaching the perimeter...

Just got out of a meeting (yes, the wheels grind on in Corporate America) and I have to say I'm getting paranoid. Haven't seen any immediate action, but who can tell? Meetings tend to leave everyone zombiefied...

Saw some figures moving in the trees and according to [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl, they seem to be drawn to movement and light. Glad I'm on the 5th floor, but once they breach the building and our geriatric security I'm afraid it's all over but the dying.

The kitchen staff has left for the day, which means I can hole up with giant bags of salt and all the cutlery I can wield. ([livejournal.com profile] cluegirl has already stopped a few in their tracks using a mouthful of salt, and [livejournal.com profile] son_of_dust had some great ideas involving oil-filled water balloons and flaming arrows.) Glad I held onto some of the party planning supplies. I'ma head downstairs while they're still lurking in the trees and stock up. Got a lighter, some matches and a couple butane candle clickers. That should do nicely. At least it's stopped raining...

I can pilfer a laptop from one of the trainers in class. By the time they notice it missing, they won't care anymore. I'll try and keep updating.

[livejournal.com profile] fairgoldberry is holed up at a miliary base... we're too far to try today, but if we can hold out through the night, I can swing by to get [livejournal.com profile] arbiter_of_cool, [livejournal.com profile] antmanx and [livejournal.com profile] sashastarchaser... will try to reach [livejournal.com profile] buffalobills & [livejournal.com profile] dancewench for a rendezvous, but cell service is spotty at best. They're doing construction on Hwy. 121 less than a mile from here... heavy machinery could come in handy (and [livejournal.com profile] heronmarkblade & [livejournal.com profile] peppermintkiss know that I can drive—and even back up in—a big ass truck).

[livejournal.com profile] lebean, if you're still viable, I will come for you. [livejournal.com profile] mikeoquinn is resourceful, too, and I'd feel better having loved ones near... and I'd rather go down fighting with people I trust at my back.

Needless to say, if you see me moving slower and more gracelessly than usual, you know what to do. No mercy... because it's no longer me, and the thing I have become will certainly show you none.

It felt like an ordinary day. Sure, my water was turned off yesterday, and I was peeved. I paid the bill before 6pm, so what gives? Good thing... I spent the night at [livejournal.com profile] arbiter_of_cool's place so at least there was safety in numbers (and plenty of bladed weapons). Didn't know that would seem important now, but there you have it. Got to work earlier than usual, and that may have been my fatal mistake. A lot of Web sites are blocked due to company firewalls, and do you think they'll let us stop working? Of course not. I was here when the weather ripped a 15-foot hole in the roof. My department's closing techs were still working (it was around 7:30pm, mind) and called me & my boss to see if it was OK to leave... 'cuz there was a waterfall in the stairwell. I doubt this will be any different. If it weren't for [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl, I'd have never known there was any danger.

Our cubes are the low call center kind, so I can see them coming. Plus, I'm on the top floor; I have a good, long distance line of sight. The trees on the Frito Lay lot may make things tricky, but the brush is thick enough that I can track movement. Assets? I have a few salt packets in my desk. Letter opener... but that means they have to get in close. Ugh. Lead glass candle holder - same problem. At least I'm on good terms with the kitchen staff. My Spanish is very rusty, but it won't matter. Survival instinct transcends. I have high protein oatmeal packets - provided that the water isn't the contagion source - and a few snack bars. Home isn't far, and I have a key to Arbiter's place... more weapons there.

No one around here (except probably [livejournal.com profile] gelfling33) will listen... until it's too late. No, my boss will. She watches enough SciFi. But the rest of the sheeple? I find myself already creating the list of Those to Save and Cannonfodder in my head. I can only do so much... and I'm too far away from my beloved and friends... I can only send him text messages...

I have a half tank of gas. If I could get to [livejournal.com profile] katiebare, we could coordinate with [livejournal.com profile] meatpie to rendezvous with [livejournal.com profile] unclesiko. Then we'd have a fighting chance... literally.
