Oh, and thanks too. :) I was reading how simple it was and thought I could do that this weekend. Then I got to the mortar and pestle part.

A passable substitute for a mortar and pestle is a good, strong bowl and the end of a rolling pin, or the back of a very strong spoon. Your wrist will hurt because you'll need more pressure, but it works. :)

Oooh, good idea! And for this recipe, the herbs just need a bit of crushing. They don't need to be finely ground or anything so maybe that will make it easier. You might even be able to cheat a little and start the process off with some kitchen shears.
