Weekend Update

It was, for me, a good blend of socialization, relaxation, productivity, and down time with my schnuckiputzi. Here's the scoop (such as it is):

  • Worked on getting him caught up on Eureka so that he can watch the Season 2 premiere with me.

  • Ran some errands—both Saturday and Sunday—and in the course of said errand running, we ran into [livejournal.com profile] jenna_thorn & family. Shared the Sugar Cane Ninja Mommy story with [livejournal.com profile] arbiter_of_cool, of course—but well after he could ask her to perform some DVD-throwing-star-fu or other form of malfeasance in Fry's.

  • I think we've picked out our dishwasher (no, his name is not Little T—erm, anymore). Good Morning America showed a fortuitously timed piece this week on Consumer Reports' best picks. We liked the Kenmore a lot. A bit more money, but lots quieter and with nifty features like an adjustable top rack—heh, I said "rack"—and adjustable tines in said top rack. I am inordinately excited... but probably not nearly as much as the other residents of the House of Doors. Two bachelors were fine without a dishwasher. Two couples and a teenager? Not so much.

  • Showed up in costume to a themed birthday party, only to realize that it was just themed and not, in fact a dress up event. *shrug* But the birthday honoree seemed pleased, so it's all to the good. It was a magical theme. I kept thinking I'd just wear my fairy necklace & earrings—but then I spotted my burgundy wings, and pictured that with stripey socks... then I found my argyle knee socks with the cherries on them, and the idea coalesced into something to make [livejournal.com profile] precociouslace proud: an Amy Brown-style Cherry Fairy. Yep, I had hair sticks & jewelry with glittery cherries. Put hair in mussed, spiky top knot, add Moresca skirt, lacy tank top, copious arm bangles, and glitter? Voila!

  • Had to giggle when I saw a piece of the previously aforementioned glitter on [livejournal.com profile] arbiter_of_cool's lip on Sunday evening. >;-}

  • Speaking of cherries—'cuz if we weren't we should be!—found some of the tastiest EVAR at Costco this weekend. It is a scary, scary place on a Saturday afternoon, but seriously. These ambrosial fruits were the size of two thumbs. Big ones. Mmmmm Mmmmmm and good.

  • Drunk dial from [livejournal.com profile] nostradomnatrix—sadly thwarted as my phone was with my purse... in the trunk of my car. D'Oh! Fortunately, the comedy of the voice message brightened up Sunday morning breffas.

  • Harry Potter in IMAX 3D is very happy-making. No spoilers, just contentment with how it translated into film. Probably my favorite thus far. Great performances, and appropriate casting. Lots cut from the book, but it was needed to keep the film tight and focused on the main plot. Did nothing to quell my Sirius♥. Not sorry.

  • Feeling more than ready for new ink, and soonest. [livejournal.com profile] turtliewings, are you ready, or shall I forge ahead? I will still be glad to accompany you whenever you need me, of course. But I need to make some commitments to myself and manifest a few things... and it is just, quite simply, time.

  • May be some new irons in the fire. Don't know enough to divulge just yet, but just trying to draw opportunities that will provide me with joy—creative satisfaction with a pay-it-forward feel and financial freedom are, of course, joy-bringing elements/requirements. Just gathering info and letting ideas percolate, but such things do not appear by accident. We shall see. We surely shall.

  • Still made time for some reading, chores, cooking—beef stew currently stewing in the crock pot at House of Doors, yay!— and other things to make me feel as though I earned the play time. A nice balance. Hooray that.

Wow. I'm very m-dash-ful today. Wonder what that's about. Hey, at least last week's funk has abated. I was a bit drained due to lots of mitigating circumstances, but managed to recharge my batteries with friends and loved ones—though crossing a few items off my To Do list at work and home definitely helped.

Is there room in your life for one more trip to the moon?

As per usual, the last few weeks went by in a blur. For you intrepid readers to whom it matters, here are the highlights (such as they are):

  • Laid low by migraine badness for most of the Independence Day holiday week. It was intermittent and mostly controllable by meds, but prolonged (as in a week or more). Mneh. Bah. Feh. Guttural sound of displeasure.

  • Movie happiness of late: Ratatouille, Saved! (wickedly funneh), A History of Violence, Talladega Nights... all quite varied & enjoyable in different ways. I think there were more random DVD viewings, but today I cannot brain; I have teh dumb. Read more... )

  • In a bit of a funk this week. Not sure what that's about, but I'm hoping that some cathartic cleaning will help my clear my head. Actually, I don't intend to clean as much as sort, toss and organize. I have my list of big stuff to be sold at the garage sale next month, but I am preparing to sort through my closets to reduce the clutter I bring with me.

  • Big items up for grabs:
  • Washer & dryer (latter can use either gas or electric)*
  • Full size headboard, footboard & matching dresser (wood)
  • Freestanding hammock
  • Glass-top dining room table & 4 wooden chairs*
  • Futon w/black metal frame, black mattress & navy blue mattress cover & bolster pillows

There will be more for sale, but these items* will be available in a little over a month—the rest can be yours now, if you want. If you're interested, let me know (you'll need to provide transport). Want a photo? Measurements? Drop a comment and I'll oblige.

  • So.. there's your bi-monthly recap. Random pics of things that have amused or intrigued me may be forthcoming in the next few days.

I know that faire is over, QAL is on a break and so I should ostensibly have more free time... but that is a myth. Free time is something other people have, apparently. Not that I mind too much... but right now I'd be glad to be able to use vacation days for an actual vacation. As it is, I will be hoarding time to get settled once the final move happens on Sept. 1st.

    *battens down hatches*

Big love to one and all.
