sandmansister: (Cirque Mixed Up - autumn_lyric)
[personal profile] sandmansister
Ended up at NTMD* VI for New Year's Eve. Got into the spirit after a marvelous lunch with [livejournal.com profile] fakefriar, [livejournal.com profile] bookwench, [livejournal.com profile] kangitanka3 and a surprise guest - [livejournal.com profile] koyote19 (BIG yay for that)! Poor [livejournal.com profile] bookwench had to return to work while the rest of us enjoyed a leisurely chat. I headed to the mall with the boys, as [livejournal.com profile] fakefriar wanted help finding some new pimp threads to impress his lady at the party. ([livejournal.com profile] kangitanka3 decided I was Carson and he was Kyan.)

After a successful shirt-buying mission, which included brief detours at the Godiva shoppe (I was weak before the lure of Extra Dark Chocolate Truffles), and Bath and Bodyworks to restock two favorite discontinued scents (Cool Citrus Basil and White Tea & Ginger - on sale no less!), I headed home to get myself party ready.

Suffice to say I survived relatively unscathed, though I forgot how much faster I get squiffy drinking and hot tubbing simultaneously. (I blame [livejournal.com profile] patthebone's mad bartending skillz - he kept bringing me blue drinks!) Finally managed some fitful sleep on a futon mattress donated by [livejournal.com profile] jperegrine at about 5am. It's always a great bash, and Vegas-like, whatever happens at NTMD stays at NTMD. ;-)

Saturday involved the requisite hangover stop at IHOP. I was defeated halfway through the meal, but felt better for ingesting solid food. Spent a wonderful afternoon at the Fort Worth Zoo for HeyDan's annual tour. He worked there for 4 years and has some marvelous stories. Enjoyed time with [livejournal.com profile] kymberlynn, WineShark, [livejournal.com profile] lebean and [livejournal.com profile] seahawk_capt, who brought WeeLara. Ye gods there should be a law about such hypnotic cuteness! She wore me out wanting to catch up with the train. I was also silly enough to play a kind of chase with her on the ramp of the herpetarium. What was I thinking? Oh yeah, I was rendered utterly helpless by the power of baby laughter and wee arms flung around my neck in big hugs.

Hangover was gone, but the muggy, sinus-pressurey weather gave me a sinus headache which I was fortunate enough to medicate before it turned migrainey. This was further facilitated by the nap I took so I could get ready for bed. (Isn't that just the height of pitifulness? Yeesh.)

Had to be up relatively early this morning. Mandatory derby skate practices started up, and it's an hour from my house to the rink. This was my first practice, and first time on skates in at least 5 years (though it's been closer to 25 since I skated in earnest). I didn't do any of the backwards drills but made it through the rest without falling. I'm still working to find my balance and my turns are more than a little rough, but I attempted a couple crossovers without dying. Getting my own skates will make a world of difference. The crappy rental skates have wheels that are a bit more narrow, and no arch support to speak of. Mine had toe stops of assness too, so that was festive. I'm hoping muscle memory continues to kick in... when my muscles are a bit less sore, that is.

Tomorrow I begin prioritizing my project list so I balance getting things done with some much needed down time to detox my pea brain. I'm versatile, going from productive to slothful in a nanosecond. The Tick said it best: "An object at rest cannot be stopped!"

Hope you all had a decent NYE, whatever you decided to do. Big bunches of love to you, one and all.
