Busy busy weekend... impromptu dinner with [livejournal.com profile] yinshu Friday night, mad house cleaning Saturday in preparation for a lovely dinner, punctuated with a meeting of the Executive Board for roller derby, then back home to finish cleaning.

The aforementioned dinner was outstanding. Five courses, wine with each (as paired by WineShark, with [livejournal.com profile] sbbish and HeyDan assisting, I believe) and lots of requisite laughter. Even had to use the extender on the dining room table, though eating in there still makes me feel like a kid playing at being a big girl. The menu?

* Granny Smith slices on sourdough with melted gouda
* Roasted fruit soup (recipe from HeyDan)
* Mixed green salad with raspberry balsamic vinaigrette (bacon and bleu cheese crumbles too... mmmm!)
* Herbed Salmon wrapped in Prosciutto (a recipe I snagged from Jamie Oliver)
* Dark chocolate fondue (It had Bailey's Irish Cream in it... I think my mouth climaxed. For real.)

All the wines were lovely, but the port paired with the dark chocolate was my favorite. (Go fig.) I finally turned in around 2:30am after finishing all the dishes.

Sinus pressure headache plagued me for the better part of the last 48-hours. Played it pretty low-key yesterday, finishing chores and catching up on some reading. Same today. Woke up around 6am with Head of OuchTM; took Tylenol Sinus, staggered downstairs for an ice pack and went back to bed with it on my forehead. Was gonna go to The Church Sunday night but the headachey bit was starting to lurk and I figured exacerbating it with oontz would not be the cleverest move.

Chatted at length with [livejournal.com profile] nostradomnatrix today, and even a few minutes with a lunch breaking [livejournal.com profile] skiggaret. Hilarity ensued. She's smart enough to write down some of the hilarity. Me? Not so much. But hey, it will be like all new jokes to me again next time we talk.

And for the weird moment of the weekend, a man crossed himself as he passed in front of my car in the Wal-Mart parking lot. What is that all about? Not like I was revving my engine. "C'mon, meester, ya feel lucky? Bring it." I didn't even have a crazy gleam in the eye. Sheesh.

In other news, some sad stuff going around. More loss affecting those I love... you've no doubt heard some of the news and there's more involving another that I'm not at liberty to share just yet. Heartsick. Heartsore. Not much I can do, so I will love as best I can, speak my Truth and let all the rest go. It will have to be enough, for it's all I can do.

I still love you all... more with each passing day.

Dinner sounds amazing. Would love the roasted fruit soup recipe... What port did you have? I'm a fan of port, myself!

I'll check with HeyDan to get that, as I'd like it for myself! The recipe was almost double what we needed for 7 of us as it was quite rich... but I think it would keep fairly well too.

The port was Warre's (http://www.winecommune.com/stores/item.cfm/storeID/77/lotID/756474.html) and it was quite lovely.

Also, if you're a salmon fan, it's the easiest EVUH. Put fresh lemon thyme and sea salt in a mortar & pestle and work it over a bit. (The sea salt is more to grind against the lemon thyme.) Drizzle in olive oil. Brush over salmon and wrap in prosciutto. Bake at 350 (about 30 minutes). It's all "abouts" and "to taste." YUM!

Huh! I've never tried Warre's. For my cheap port fix, I've always stuck with the ruby Sandeman. Thanks for the suggestion of Warre's. I'm always up for trying something new.

Also, me and mine are planning to come see you derby it up in March. =)

Excellent! We won't be skating in the bout, but wanted to support another new league. Our exhibition will be probably Oct/Nov. down here... until we get good enough to go on the road, that is!

Aw, that's too bad! Oh well, I'm thinking it still sounds like a pretty good time. =)

Mmmm, port and truffles! While you're in KC, you might want to sup at <a href="http://www.herefordhouse.com/ppdefault.htm>Pierpont's at Union Station</a>, where you can get a flight of 3 California ports w.truffles for a measly $10. Hell of a deal. Heck, I'd even join you for decadence. Definitely want to see roller-derby fun, though.

You are making me weak in the knees! I'm *so* up for that. Will let you know as scheduling begins in earnest (not sure if we're doing any promo or stuff with the KC rollerchicks) and we'll coordinate something around it. Woohoo!
